Who can benefit?
Whether you are new to mind-body healing or you are a health care professional interested in bringing complementary approaches into your practice, Journey into Healing will empower you with practical tools and understanding to make the most conscious healing choices.

Journey into Healing includes a special emphasis on Ayurveda, the natural healing system that developed in ancient India. The core principles of Ayurveda underlie many mind-body healing approaches and will be explored in depth.

Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon originally created Journey into Healing to share their explorations and findings with like-minded health care providers and anyone interested in their own health. As the field of mind-body medicine advances, Journey into Healing continues to evolve. The course offers the latest cutting-edge information and practical advice for incorporating this knowledge into any practice or lifestyle. How many CME credits can I earn for attending?
The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum up to 23.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

All professionals may request a non-physician CME certificate from UCSD. Out-of-state participants should check with their licensing boards to determine whether the board will accept these credits. Application fee is $50.

Does this workshop fulfill a requirement on the Teachers Path at Chopra Center University?

For each upcoming Journey into Healing workshop, here are the regions in which chiropractors are eligible to receive CE credits:

Course Description and Objectives

Clinicians are increasingly called upon to advise patients on health approaches not commonly taught in conventional medical training programs. Journey Into Healing explores a theoretical framework that enables physicians and health providers to evaluate the appropriate role of complementary medicine, from both a traditional and scientific perspective. Topics covered include psychoneuroimmunology, stress management techniques, nutritional components of illness, evidence-based herbal medicine, and mind body approaches in heart disease, cancer, addiction, and digestive disorders.

Objectives:

• The ability to take a lifestyle history.
• How to apply evidence-based criteria to holistic health approaches
• The development of a theoretical framework to view alternative and complementary medical interventions.
• Recognition of the role of emotional and psychological states on physical illness.
• Familiarity with basic holistic technologies that can complement standard medical care.

Needs Assessment

Numerous studies have demonstrated that over 50% of the American population utilizes some form of unconventional health care service. Physicians need to be familiar with these approaches in order to practice quality medicine. The content of this educational program was determined by assessment of educational need and includes program feedback, expert faculty assessment, literature review, and medical practice.

Cultural and Linguistic Competency

California Assembly Bill 1195 requires continuing medical education activities with patient care components to include curriculum in the subjects of cultural and linguistic competency. It is the intent of the bill, which went into effect on July 1, 2006, to encourage physicians and surgeons, CME providers in the state of California, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to meet the cultural and linguistic concerns of a diverse patient population through appropriate professional development. The planners, speakers and authors of this CME activity have been encouraged to address issues relevant in their topic area. In addition, a variety of resources are available that address cultural and linguistic competency, some of which are included in your syllabus or handout materials.
