Q: What are the volunteer opportunities at the Chopra Center?
A: The majority of our volunteer needs are on-site, in Carlsbad, CA, at our multi-day signature events. Also, we have a few one or two day in-office opportunities. Here is a calendar of signature events: http://www.chopra.com/sites/default/files/cc-calendar-2015-2016-v2.pdf
Q: What are some of the responsibilities volunteers have on-site at the events?
A: Volunteer’s main responsibility is to support the event team by assisting with event set up and tear down, registration, and various office projects. Volunteers assist by ushering and guiding guests.
Q: What is the time commitment for volunteering at events?
A: For those volunteering at on-site events the commitment is anywhere from 4 to 8 days depending on the event. Volunteers are required to attend training, orientation, and set-up day (which is the day before the event) and then serve on either an AM or PM shift for the duration of the event. Shifts are typically 6 – 8 hours per day.
Q: Do I get to experience or participate in the program while volunteering?
A: Volunteers are considered a member of the staff while on-site. During your shift your assignment is to support the event team and guest needs. Volunteers are welcome to attend most of the scheduled program when not on their shift.
Q: How much does it cost to volunteer?
A: Volunteering is FREE and comes with our deepest gratitude. We provide lunches on event days. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.
Q: I live outside the San Diego area. What are the housing options?
A: It is the responsibility of the volunteer to provide their own lodging. Volunteers can take advantage of the Chopra Center group rate at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, when there is availability, or stay off-site at a local hotel.
Q: What are the steps I need to take to become a volunteer?
A: The first step is to complete the volunteer application. After your application is received, the volunteer coordinator will contact you about the next step.
