A Word from Dr. Simon

Were it not for the Divine Mother, there would be no Universe. According to Sankhya, one of the six systems of classical Indian philosophy, in the beginning there was Pure Potential. Known as Avyakta ― the Unmanifest ― this infinite, timeless field underlies all form and phenomena but remains transcendent to experience.

Within the field of Pure Potential exist two latent tendencies. One tendency is to remain unmanifest ― never manifested, never wants to. This aspect of the field of Pure Potential, remaining beyond time and space, is called Purusha — the Cosmic Man. Purusha permeates the universe but is never seen.

This brings us to Mother. The other aspect of the Unmanifest is Prakruti ― Mother Nature. It is the nature of Mother Nature to give rise to form and phenomena. It is the essence of the Divine Mother to birth the universe out of her love for the creation she visualizes. From the womb of Mother Divine emerge time and space, form and phenomena. Everything we hear, feel, see, taste, and smell, along with our sensory faculties and mind, is the offspring of the sacred feminine.

Put personalities to these two core powers, and we have Shiva and Shakti. Shiva is the essence of detachment and transcendence; Shakti is the essence of passion and devotion. Creation is born out of Mother’s enthusiasm, willingness, and nature to love and nurture her creation.

In this time of adoring Mom, rejoice in your personal and collective mother. Celebrate the human being who nurtured and raised you, and celebrate the divine feminine that resides within you and the whole of creation. This Mother’s Day, acknowledge the unique love that the Divine feminine has for her children as demonstrated by the gifts she lavishes upon us — the flowers, birds, animals, oceans, rivers, mountains, sun and stars of her creation.

With love,
David
