Living Perfect Health
Ayurvedic Seasonal Routine
Ayurveda divides the year into three seasons that correspond to each of the major doshas: Kapha season falls in spring; Pitta season bridges summer and early autumn; and Vata season stretches from late autumn through winter.
In the Northern Hemisphere, Kapha season is beginning, bringing rainy days; heavy, overcast skies; and cool, damp weather – all conditions that increase the Kapha dosha in the body, mind, and emotions. If too much Kapha accumulates, you may experience this imbalance as excessive weight gain, oversleeping, depression, stubbornness, sinus congestion, colds, or lethargy.
All body-types are vulnerable to Kapha imbalances in the springtime, but those who are predominantly Kapha types need to be especially vigilant about staying in balance. The key is stimulation, invigorating and releasing the heavy dullness of excess Kapha. You can find many recommendations for balancing Kapha at the Chopra Center’s Online Library.
If you want to learn more about your mind-body type and experience Ayurveda’s healing power firsthand, the Chopra Center’s Perfect Health program may be your next step. Perfect Health is a five-day wellness program that takes place each week in the nurturing environment of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad.
Perfect Health includes a personal mind-body consultation with a member of the Chopra Center’s medical staff, instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation and yoga, and daily classes in mind-body healing. You will also experience daily Ayurvedic massage treatments and Panchakarma – a five-day detox and purification process once reserved for Indian royalty.
