Sarah McLean

Sarah McLean has bicycled thousands of miles through the Middle East and Asia, lived in a Zen Buddhist monastery, and journeyed through India in search of her true life’s purpose. Along the way, she became one of the first Chopra-certified instructors of Perfect Health and Primordial Sound Meditation.

“In my 20’s I sensed that there had to be a greater reason for being, but I didn't know what it was. I asked the questions – to no one in particular – ‘What is my purpose in this life? Why am I really here?’ I listened to my intuition and paid attention to what attracted me, and that led me to Ayurveda and meditation.”

In 1989 Sarah began her personal daily meditation practice and her work with Deepak Chopra. She worked with him for more than eight years – first as a mind/body educator at the Ayurveda Health Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts, and later as the educational director for the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Southern California.

“By expanding my awareness and cultivating silence through meditation, I began to trust my inner voice and the cues I saw around me. Synchronicities became more frequent and I developed great faith in the creator that I was being led to the perfect path,” she said.

Sarah’s path led her to India, where she spent four months meditating in a South Indian ashram before traveling north to teach English to the Tibetan nuns living next to the Dalai Lama’s residence. When she returned to the states, she became a resident at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center, just outside of Idyllwild, California.

“At the monastery I experienced the deep stillness and spaciousness of the now. We spent many days – sometimes weeks at a time – in silence. I became the witness to my actions and thoughts and eventually heard my real voice, the voice of my soul, my intuition. Perhaps this voice is the ‘whisper of the gods’ that Emerson describes.”

Since 1991, Sarah has been settled in Sedona, Arizona, where she is the director of the Sedona Meditation Training Company, offering Primordial Sound Meditation, Perfect Health programs, and deep meditation retreats. Last year she volunteered for the Chopra Center at SynchroDestiny in Sedona, and we’re looking forward to seeing her again when we return for an encore presentation of this magical event in May.

For those who want to learn the powerful practice of Primordial Sound Meditation, Sarah offers her deep wisdom as one of our most experienced certified instructors.

“I want to make meditation available to as many people as possible,” she said. “It’s the best tool I know to experience who you really are . . . beyond the roles you play and your positions and possessions. Teaching meditation is what I am committed to doing to help bring peace to this life.”
