The Srota-Marma
Bhrajaka is the Pitta subdosha located in the skin. Bhrajaka Pitta regulates the skin’s temperature, enables perspiration, and absorbs and metabolizes any substance that is applied to the skin’s surface, such as lotions or medicine. In fact, anything you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body and affects your health on every level, including the functioning of the nervous system and reproductive organs.
You can nurture your complexion and well-being by giving yourself an Ayurvedic self-massage using oils that balance your mind-body type. To balance Pitta dosha, use cooling oils such as sunflower, coconut, or olive.

Summer’s hot days can aggravate the fiery nature of Pitta dosha, creating excess heat in the mind and body. Signs of a Pitta imbalance include feeling angry, becoming harsh or judgmental, and developing heartburn, ulcers, or skin inflammations such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and dermatitis.
Since the Pitta dosha governs the skin’s temperature and biochemical processes, a powerful way to bring Pitta into balance is the Ayurvedic massage treatment known as the Srota-Marma. As its name implies, the Srota-Marma incorporates two timeless healing techniques: srota (shro-ta) clearing therapy and marma therapy.
Srota therapy is a deeply relaxing treatment in which the therapist uses direct and pressured massage strokes to mobilize and clear toxins from the body’s vital circulation channels (the srotas). Srota therapy also relieves stress and muscular tension, helping to restore your balance and inner calm.

The second aspect of the Srota-Marma is marma therapy, a subtle but profound treatment that promotes the flow of energy throughout your physiology. In Ayurvedic medicine, the marmas are the junction points between your body and mind, between consciousness and matter. Using gentle touch and pure essential oils, the therapist stimulates the vital marma points of your skin, cleansing and rebalancing the energetic communication channels of your body-mind.
