A Letter From Deepak

The flow of life is nothing other than the harmonious interaction of all the elements and forces that structure the field of existence. This harmonious interaction of elements and forces in your life operates as the Law of Giving. Because your body and your mind and the universe are in constant and dynamic exchange, stopping the circulation of energy is like stopping the flow of blood. Keep Reading

Living Perfect Health

Asking “What is spirit?” is another way of asking “Who am I?” Your true Self is pure, infinite spirit. Spirit isn’t something outside you, but is intertwined in everything you feel, think and do. Looking for spirit, the Vedic sages observed, is like a thirsty fish looking for water. Go beyond mental conditioning and find spirit

Words of Wisdom

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.”
–Albert Schweitzer

“Every prophet and every saint hath a way, but it leads to God: All the ways are really one.”
–Rumi

Spirit of the Season

Giving

“Spirit isn’t a phenomenon; it is the whispered truth within a phenomenon. As such, spirit is gentle; it persuades by the softest touch. The messages never get louder, only clearer.”
– Deepak Chopra

As 2007 winds down, we have an opportunity to reflect on the gifts of spirit – the pure awareness, pure creativity and pure potentiality that is our true nature. The Chopra Center staff is thankful for the gift of love and appreciation we receive each day from tens of thousands of people around the world. We are showered with emails from you and other like-minded individuals who have found relief, purpose, and fulfillment through the guidance and support of the Center. We are grateful for your stories of triumph over health challenges, freedom from emotional turbulence, the journey of personal fulfillment, and the realization of your dreams.

With close to 1000 teachers worldwide, the Chopra Center continues to touch virtually every part of the globe through our vast network of yoga, Perfect Health and Primordial Sound Meditation instructors. As more people engage in this dialog and share the emotional, physical, and spiritual gifts of meditation, Ayurveda, and body-centered restful awareness, the world continues to awaken to a higher consciousness of peace, compassion, and love. We are grateful for this gift of global transformation through self-transformation.

Each week the Chopra Center staff gets the opportunity to witness and support the healing of our Perfect Health guests as they transform from pain to relief, from struggle to empowerment, and from despair to hope. Our guests’ successes are celebrated every day at the Chopra Center long after they have returned home. What an amazing gift they give us!

And as Deepak and David travel throughout the world sharing their light and love at Journey into Healing, SynchroDestiny, Seduction of Spirit, and Healing the Heart, we are grateful for the thousands of you who take the bold move of stepping away from your work and families for a few days to connect with us and reconnect to your unconditioned self. The timeless wisdom, emotional freedom, and renewed strength you take back to your families, friends, and colleagues resonates so clearly as a powerful gift.

December is a month of family, community, and giving. The Chopra Center is fortunate to have that family, community, and workplace all woven into one place – our wellness center in Carlsbad, California. We thank all of you who come to spend time with Deepak, David, and the Chopra Center staff; because of you, we are able to live our dharma – our purpose in life.

As a small token of our appreciation, we designed a Chopra Center 2008 Wall Calendar with quotes from Deepak and David so that you can bring their sweet words into your home or workplace – or give it to someone special in your life. We mailed the calendar to everyone in our Namasté universe whose mailing address we have. If you haven't received one, please click here and send us your mailing address. And to make it even easier for you to join us in 2008, our other gift to you is a $275 gift certificate towards enrollment at any program or event.

Meditation Q&A

mudra

Q: Is it important to hold my hands in a particular position when I meditate?
A: In spiritual traditions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, people use hand positions called mudras, which are said to impart specific physical and spiritual benefits to the meditator by connecting the subtle energetic patterns in the body. Some individuals report that during meditation their hands spontaneously go into these mudra positions. However, Primordial Sound Meditation is about grace, ease and natural body position. The important thing is our awareness, and we want the body to be comfortable and relaxed so that it can support the meditation process. You can fold your hands in your lap, place them on your knees, or touch your index finger to thumb in the classic gyan mudra position. It doesn’t actually matter what position you choose as long as you are comfortable.

How We're Stretching

Crown Chakra

In the Vedic tradition, the energy center or chakra located at the crown of the head is known as Sahaswara. The ancient seers visualized this chakra as a thousand-petaled lotus flower. As the petals unfold, the memory of wholeness is restored, and you remember that you are a spiritual being, temporarily disguised as a person. This union of individuality and universality is the highest purpose of yoga. Open the energy flow in your crown chakra

Chopra Center for Wellbeing

A Word from Dr. Simon

The word religion comes from the Latin religare, which means “to bind” or “to tie.” Similarly, the term ligature, meaning suture, also derives from this same Latin root. These derivations give us a clue to the original intention of religion, which is to reconnect the part to the whole. This is the essence of spirituality, and this is a good time to reflect upon it
