Ask Deepak: Sleepy meditations

Question:

I  have a difficult time staying awake when I meditate!  Location, time of day, physical position do not seem to impact this.  After I am able to stop thinking, I am aware of a short time of silence, then I vision (or is it dreaming), then I start to nod off.  I feel a strong desire to nap.  Sometimes I indulge this desire, sometimes I force myself into wakefulness.  I enjoy sleeping, going to bed around 10, falling asleep right away, awaking once or twice during the night but falling right back into sleep, and awaking between 5 and 6 each morning.  I’m generally alert and not tired during the day.  Any insights or recommendations?

Ask Deepak: Grieving a suicide

Question:

I have always been a very spiritually inclined person. For the past three years I have seen very close relatives die of natural causes, murder and now suicide. I have learned the process of grieving, but with this one it has just left me with so many questions, about life in itself. I have always believed in destiny and Karma.

How do I make this type of death make sense to my spiritual and emotional grounding?

Answer:

Ask Deepak: Suffering

Question:

I believe the mind is the power house of transferring information from the non physical world to the physical world but can you please explain to me the reasons for pain, suffering (of vulnerable – elderly, children, animals). What are the reasons for this because I need to understand so that I can make sense of it all. Is it that how we interpret suffering and how we experience it that maps out our soul and determines the next life we live. Is there such a place as heaven? Is there such a place as hell? Once we die doesn’t that place we go to get packed out and full of souls. Does heaven get cramped with souls. Please explain to me. Where do we go?

Ask Deepak: Getting Started with Meditation

Question:

I recently read your e book on the seven spiritual laws, and I was wondering where I should start in order to apply these laws to my everyday life. I am unfamiliar with meditation, and I have never done yoga. So how do I go about it if I am lacking those skills? At this time, taking a classes prove to be difficult. Any suggestions on how to get started at home?

Ask Deepak: Chakra Meditation

Question:

I began teaching myself to meditate about 6 weeks ago, and I have become very interested in the chakras.  I use your cd set “Balancing the Chakras” each time I meditate, and I have read 2 books on the chakras and auras, as well as searched on the internet for an answer to my question.  I meditate in semi-darkness seated in front of a mirror.  I use the mirror because at the outset of my meditation, I saw colors – mostly red and dark blue and bright white,  sometimes orange and once I saw pale blue, yellow and green.  I also see a fuzzy white aura that follows the shape of my form, and it expands and contracts.  The colors appear randomly, varying in size and intensity.  Sometimes they float and sometimes they sparkle like a tiny gem.

Ask Deepak: Freedom from ego

Question:

I have been told that Eastern wisdoms teach people how to restrict their egos, their desires, to free themselves from suffering, is this true?
Do Eastern techniques effect a person so that their egoistic desires diminish until eventually they are united with the One, with the non-local?

Answer:

Ask Deepak: Neutrality of the Mantra

Question:

In your reply about accessing the higher self you wrote: ” If you use a mantra in meditation, the mantra allows the mind to be undirected and neutral. This state permits the inherent attraction of the one’s inner nature of silence, joy and knowledge to draw the mind to the higher Self.”  My question is: Isn’t using a mantra a form of directing the mind, and therefore, how can the mind be neutral – and what does ‘neutral’ mean?  If one becomes aware of the mind ‘being drawn to the higher self” how does one distinguish that from the mind becoming distracted?

Answer:

Ask Deepak: Correct Meditation

Question:

When I meditate I am always wondering if I am doing it correctly. This takes my mind of what I should be concentrating on. I am a Christian and took plenty out of your book The Third Jesus, in my opinion you’ve got it spot on. Although reality (the physical world) always get to me, how can I change this?

Question:

If everything is energy, does all energy have consciousness?  Is consciousness limited to “entities”?  A rock is energy, it has Life Force, yes? Is this the same as having consciousness?

Answer:

Ask Deepak: Life After Death

Question:

When your physical body passes, does your energy simply return to the One Source, becoming everything, and nothing, as your own consciousness merges with Go, or do you continue your spiritual journey in the eternal here and now with the ability to consciously merge and separate your Spirit with the choice to merge with God or to experience life in the spiritual or physical realm?
