Law of the Day: Wednesday

The Law of Least Effort

Nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease . . . with carefreeness, harmony, and love. And when we harness the forces of harmony, joy, and love, we create success and good fortune with effortless ease.

I will put the Law of Least Effort into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:The Law of Least Effort

1. I will practice Acceptance. Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur. I will know that this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment. My acceptance is total and complete. I accept things as they are this moment, not as I wish they were.

2. Having accepted things as they are, I will take Responsibility for my situation and for all those events I see as problems. I know that taking responsibility means not blaming anyone or anything for my situation (and this includes myself). I also know that every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and this alertness to opportunities allows me to take this moment and transform it into a greater benefit.

3. Today my awareness will remain established in Defenselessness. I will relinquish the need to defend my point of view. I will feel no need to convince or persuade others to accept my point of view. I will remain open to all points of view and not be rigidly attached to any one of them.

These comments resonante with me much the same way as Maurice Nicoll’s Psychological Commentaries on the Teachingof Gurdjieff and Ouspensky. Relinguishing the need to defend my point of view relates to self-justification spoken about by Nicoll (Commentaries, (volume 1 commentary May 21, 1942).
“Negative emotions, self-justifying, identifying, and all the great central things tauight in the work in connection with practical effort on oneself are the things that keep us where we are…” Nicoll also stresses the importance of doing things out of understanding. So if I commit to the above 3 points out of understanding, it makes all the difference. “to work from understanding is one of the great characteristics of the Fourth Way.”
I find it wonderful that the points expressed here are part of an ancient conversation. These writings could easily have been made in 1942, and Nicoll’s just today.

I had decide to go for a walk it felt pleasant. To see that the snow had melted and finally to take off my coat… One of my many coats…
I walk to a park near by… children were out playing with their parents. I continue to walk down the path that had led me threw…as I walk I listen for the sounds…of a squirrel scrumbling threw last falls leaves. I could hear the birds sing as it sung just for me. I look up to see the sun skimming threw the unblossom trees. It was just enough to give us a smile….I love Wisconsin….

California… I remember not just the bouqties and yesterdays fashion. The picture of the Hollywood sign and people walking by…..Meditation mountain standing on the peek surrounding by trees to breath. And of coarse the sun always there to give me a glow. The drums of the native singing to the Gods..The sun continues to glow…It was time to leave…the drive to Vegas..sitting in the back seat looking into God given Earth. The whisper to see …Can you see it Ms. Tina?… I see a lion, people holding hands and Egyptian form…this is real to see…just listen. A secret of Beauty that was hidden in the mountains that were left behide…..

    Love Christine
