We received many, many inspiring responses to our December Blog post inviting you to share your commitments for 2010. Now, one month later, we invite you to check in and look at the ways in which you have moved forward on your commitment. What specific steps have you taken? What have you discovered so far? What obstacles have you encountered along the way, and what actions have you taken to overcome them?
This is an opportunity to share your experiences, get inspiration, and if you like, ask for support and ideas from the extended Chopra Center community. Whatever commitment or goal you are working on, it’s highly likely that at least one person in this global community has encountered similar challenges and may be able to offer some valuable feedback.

I know from personal experience that going cold turkey with an alcohol or drug addiction is nearly impossible to do, especially in the critical first hours, days, weeks, and even months. You really need support to successfully put “the voice” down; the voice that’s been running the show and has gotten you where you currently are (“what’s the use?” “you can have just one” “I’m a loser” and on and on and on and on). Perhaps you’ve had a bad experience or two with a 12-step group, or some other support group, but I urge you to give it another try. Literally, your life depends on it, and there is so much help available. Your best life awaits you. I wish you all the best.

I live in MAryland and there is a serious need for an Ayurveda Perfect Health Teacher. I have set my intentions 3 years ago and want to manifest the entire cost of this training course so that I can finally be able to share this with Maryland. I have been so ready for this and all the while been studying Ayurveda on my own so that when this became a physical manifestation I will be ready body, mind and spirit!

Dear Anne, Bless you, I hope you come back and read the comments. Can you get support from people who have been in your situation, have you a mentor, are there daily groups in your area, go to them all, every day if they are available. Get all the support you can from people who understand what you are suffering. And keep getting the support even when you feel you don’t need it anymore, still go to the meetings… then if you have a weak moment you have a back up system. Sending much love and many blessings. xx

Dear Janis, Anna & others who were kind enough to offer advice and blessings, THANK YOU! I didn’t expect anyone to actually care or reply, so have only now re-checked the site. Wow. It is such an incredible feeling to know that others, that I’ve never met, from the other side of the world (I’m an Aussie), still care for one another, both in heart and in practise.
I have since sought counselling in a wonderful woman who is actually breaking ground here in Oz, by doing her thesis on the correlation between mental health [issues] and drug &/or alcohol use (essentially ‘self-medicating’ I am told). Currently our gov dept’s treat them as separate conditions, whereas she’s arguing for a more wholistic approach.
Well, I’m on a mission! And determined to get there, however long it takes. Thanks again y’all. XOX Love and Peace

Anne,
I to was an addicted to alcohol for years…I finally got sick of being sick of it and found a way out and I am happy to say I am cured and more happy than ever before in my life. I tried AA ect. but they are stuck in the 40′s and think alcohol addiction is a disease, it’s not, otherwise a doctor could test you for it. I read a book called rational recovery and then the easyway to quit drinking, they both deal with your sub-conscience mind and how addiction is a habit formed in there and you have the control to stop it forever.
I also have found so much inner peace with meditation and God it has opened up my mind to a whole other universe out there and alcohol just messes all that up. My relationships are better than ever with God, my husband, son, friends everyone.
Hang in there anne, you are good enough and learn to love yourself and let go of the past and move into a future that can be so wonderful it won’t believe it.
Love

Thanks Becky!
Actually I gave up smoking a few years ago using Alan Carr’s ‘Only/Easy Way to give up Smoking” – his methodology is really transformative! No need to further enrichen the pharmasutical parasites by feeding the body with nicotine patches, etc. keeping one addicted to the substance. Just change the mindset.
I, also, find AA’s philosophy rather draconian: I think there does need to be a level of self-responsibility; and find that labelling oneself as an “alcoholic” years past sobriety is like calling myself a grade 7 pupil, even though I’m a post-uni graduate! We are what we label ourselves as.Love this site, Deepak, David & rest of the team! Just listening to the online meditations have been my saving grace so many times!
I shall seek out the texts you recommend and am currently working on finding a true understanding of “God”, as I most accurately perceive him/her/it (no offense intended to anyone, I’m just ignorant), as giving up alcohol seems to leave a ‘void’, as I’m sure you know, Becky. No doubt, for a reason.
We had a wee earthquake here in the Adelaide Hills just after I posted last night’s message. A sign? Dunno. Thanks guys, XOX
love & kisses

Anne,
Sounds like you have a good foundational start since you were able to give up smoking. I once thought that life without alchol would be boring and thought of never drinking again terrified me. Thats so untrue…Anne you will feel so empowered by this step..you will be living in truth and when you look in the mirror you will love the person looking back at you.
Be sure and notice the little things in life that God sends you like people and tools..I have found that I pay more attention to signs like the earth quake you mentioned. God is always showing me new paths, that before when I was buried in my self-centered, self pity addiction I never noticed.
I also read a couple of other law attraction books, the Master Key System and Jesus taught it too, the laws of attraction. They are kind of mind benders but you sound like a very open minded person.
I will add you to my prayers and I know you will be successful on your journey…dance joyfully through life!
Love you sister
