Just a few hours away from the Chopra Center live the redwoods -- some of the biggest and most ancient trees in the world -- reaching up to 115.5 m (379.1 ft) in height and 8 m (26 ft) in diameter, and thriving for over 2000 years.
What is the secret of the redwoods’ incredible longevity?  The elemental power of Agni – the energy, heat, fire, and light that clears away everything that threatens the trees’ survival while at the same time nurturing the conditions essential for growth and regeneration. When the heat of fire rises from the forest floor, the redwood cones open and release their seeds. Without the clearing force of agni, redwood seedlings would be overcrowded by competing shade trees and not have enough sunlight to grow. But instead, the transformational power of agni clears the way for growth and expansion. Our first issue of Agni Light celebrates the transformational fire within each of us. Agni’s heat burns away physical, mental, and emotional debris, making room for something new to be born in our life. Agni’s light provides clarity and illumination that allows us to discover and fulfill our true purpose.
